I am writing to ask you to consider supporting the resolution to be brought up by fellow SREC member, Jeremy Blosser, at the upcoming meeting.
I recognize the issue of Constitutional Carry is a hotly charged political issue. While my personal views and that of our caucus are supportive of Constitutional Carry, that is not our primary concern. Our biggest concern is that the representatives running on our ticket listen to the members of our party. Our members invested their time, energies and money going to the State Convention in 2014 to build a strong Republican Party of Texas. They produced a platform the Texas GOP can be proud of. The platform concludes with this resolution:
"We call upon the 84th Texas Legislature to propose to the people of Texas a constitutional amendment to strike '; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime' from Article I, Section 23 of the Texas Constitution. Further, we request the State Party Chair and the State Republican Executive Committee consider adoption of such an amendment and other legislation necessary to remove restrictions on Texans' right to own and bear arms a legislative priority for the Republican Party of Texas for the 2015 legislative session and to utilize reasonable Party resources necessary to promote and support their passage."
For the integrity of the party I ask that you, as our representatives, consider honoring the wishes of thousands of delegates that produced this resolution in our platform. They wanted this as a legislative priority in the 84th Texas Legislature. They were ignored. We understand this resolution is bold and may seem harsh to some. However, those delegates need to know that what they've produced was not in vain. They need to see the leaders of the party defending its members. Please be that voice that speaks for what is right. The future growth and health our party is at stake.
Attached is the resolution for your review.
